Lanikai

“Lanikai Oh Lanikai”, sung to the tune of Galveston, by Glenn Campbell.

It’s unbelievable here.  It’s now 2 AM and I am typing this in my loft office as the breezes dominate the sounds outside, rather than the old H-1 and 16th Ave. noises my wife and I were used to.  Around 11PM and sometimes midnight every night, it seemed there would be the extreme blasts of the fast cars or motorcycles on H-1.  I imagined that it was the exact time of shift change for HPD, which could explain the timing.

Thye city of Honolulu seems like a distant memory to me already.

None of that here.  I guess the mansion next door has automatic sprinklers, cuz they just kicked in.  If my wife was here I am sure she would thnk that was the rain.  It is so wonderful to hear the rain here, as well.

For those of you who don’t know Lanikai, well, you don’t know what you don’t know.  When we were first offered the chance to stay here for a short while, I told my wife NO, and went over the list of reasons, so matter-of-fact(ly), so logically.  I was Ben Franklin, with the legal pad with the pros and the right and the cons on the left.  By the way that method is over-rated, we all know we can manipulate the process.

Anyway, like many things, talking about Lanikai Beach, connected to Kailua Beach, is just NOT good enough.  It has to be experienced.  You could notice, some night in the area, how extravagant the moon and stars look through the tops of the palm trees, but chances are you’d miss it.

You could ‘luck out’ and catch a photo with the fading available light as the sun dips behind the mountain here.  You know, it is more of a hill, but mountain sounds good, doesn’t it?

You may catch a nice picture of the Mokes, (the Mokulua Islands), but not really ‘get it.’

There is really nothing like the daily “hey, I’m on vacation” feel here.  It is incredible to catch the various shades of shadowy light in the evening and snap as many ‘perfect’ pics as you want.  And I can’t wait to catch another unique sunrise from behind the Mokes.  In 3 more hours….ouch.

Anyway, if it sounds like I am bragging, I failed.  As a painter attempts to catch a moment, I want to share a few of the magical moments here.  Besides my wife is off-island tonite and I am up late.

Our time here may be limited.  If this is heaven, God, I DO want to stay here forever.  Just wanted to get THAT out there.  We are so blessed.  Thank God I married wisely…..

Of course I will show pics soon.  But give me a minute, we just got the computer set up today.  So it’s me and the cat(s) off to bed for now…………aloha

The 4th of July

It’s here, and as usual I don’t care.  I am about as patriotic as the next person, but isn’t Memorial Day for that?

My wife (Dr. Malia) and I are chillin’ like villians and I could use a day off, but we really are hoping that there are some stores open when we go to run errands.  It has been a good year.  I guess this is the half way point isn’t it?

I have so much to be grateful for.  I live in Hawaii.  I now have a fantastic job.  I am slowly getting used to the fact that I now work 40 hours at an office rather than from home.  Give me a little more time on that.  The job will really reward me for the skills I have been developing over the years and I am a bit surprised still that it all came about.

I am in sales at Your EZ to Use Island Pages, an independent directory here in Hawaii.  We are part of a huge company, Ogden Directories that runs many newspapers and telephone directories and even owns the Pittsburgh Pirates.  (I know, I know, I wouldn’t brag TOO much about the Pirates’ season, but it’s a small fraternity of people that are Major League Baseball team owners.)   Who do ya know that needs Yellow Pages advertising?

I have my Zrii business, and I am ratcheting it down just a bit.  My wife and I are healthier because of this tremendous liquid nutritional and I get a check.  I will still make calls but the bulk of my non 40 hour work time THIS weekend is aimed at my new job.

Zrii = http://www.rickemmerich.myzrii.com

My Holy Tea business is chugging along.  I am in profit and I have lost 20 lbs since last Christmas.  People are getting healthier becasue of it.  That’s a win-win, so adding in a bit of profit is gravy.  www.holyteaclub/rickemmerich

I have a new business that I feel is going to be a very timely operation.  Xziex makes water from the air, or atmosphere.  Just think about that for a minute.

Anyone who lives in an area that has problems producing water from their aquifers, or wonders about its quality, read on.  Anyone who is concerned about the health hazards that come from posioned water, or who is concerned about terrorists targeting our water, pay attention.  If you think that we put FAR too many plastic bottles from the bottled water we drink into the landfills, this may be for you.  If you question the quality of tap water that is ‘purified’ by bottlers, like I do….check this out.  (I think I covered everyone there.)

Xziex = www.rickemmerich.myxziex.com

Thank God I am writing this today.  My life took a left turn about 4 years ago and in 6 weeks I will celebrate the 4 year anniversay of my heart attack.  Yes you read that correctly.  Thank God I had a heart attack.  You can read more about it at this blog site.  http://rickemmerich.com   I will be a part of a book that we expect to publish early next year.  It is Thank God I Had A Heart Attack.   Right now the first book of the series is out.   Thank God I…   To pick up a copy, go to http://thankgodi.com/?idAff=4

The real reason that I am NOT that excited today is that I am not a huge fan of fireworks-never have been.  My wife and I have two cats.  They like them even less.  So we may have to bundle them up and head to her office where they will not have to hear the noises that remind us all of ‘the bombs bursting in air.’  What good did those bombs bursting in air do anyway?

Thank God I had a heart attack Pt. 3/What has changed.

Now, what has changed, and why am I grateful?

I was grateful that I came out of the procedure without too much damage, heck I was breathing.
I’m grateful that so many of my bros and sisters in Christ saw fit to visit me. My mom, and two of my sisters made the drive up from Chicago (to Milwaukee).

I took another look at my life, and eliminated most if not all of the stress. Eventually people stepped up big time to help reassemble my poor condo.

Less than one year after the visit to the hospital I married the most wonderful perfect woman for me. And she is a Holistic Chiropractor. I live in Hawaii. God has been very very good to me.

The changes I made right after I got back home from the hospital included adding fruits and vegetables and cutting out the red meat for the most part.

Then Dr. Malia and I met in person. The moment I saw her at LAX, I said “She’s the one for me!” She said to herself “He’s OK.”

She gave much more advice about nutrition and gave me adjustments. She also introduced me to NET,(Neural Emotional Technique.) I felt more love and encouragement the more we got to know each other. We are a great match.

I work at home (do you call this work?) so most of the frustrations from a job are gone.

The beauty, the skies, the beaches the air so wonderful, the trade winds, the temperature here in Hawaii obviously blows away the gray, too cold or too hot, rush hour traffic life in Milwaukee. I know there are good things there too, of course.

I want to share my life, my knowledge of health, my wife’s knowledge and advice. I want to help those I can. I know the Bible a little and find that that is a major help in my life. I am willing to share that too. (I don’t think God let me live to just kick back and watch ESPN.)

Sharing YOUR story will be refreshing and will help others. You definitely CAN become a part of a published book, Thank God I had a heart attack. (If that is your passion.)

We will get some audios, some videos and some pictures of other survivors. The top pic is me and my lovely bride, Dr. Malia walking down the aisle. I guess you will see others.

I have lost 20 pounds with the help of some herbal tea, and I can share that with all of you. The Holy Tea can be found on my blog.

I use a health formula, a liquid nutritional, called Zrii and that has really impacted my health.
Go to http://www.rickemmerich.myzrii.com for details.

I’m starting Yoga and can’t wait to get back into a workout routine. It’s been a while.

We have some new technology that will really impact people and their sleep and energy.  Go to http://www.squidoo.com/wishforlove

Please write your heart attack survivor story and share pics at http://www.squidoo.com/ThankGodIhadaheartattack.

Malia and I believe that God kept me around for a reason, and my relationship with Him is so important.  If that is a need or desire of yours as well, we’d love to share more how He has impacted our lives.

Those more interested in Chiropractic and Dr. Malia (not TOO interested guys) can go to  http://honoluluchiropracor.net to find out more

I love you all, my wife Dr.Malia and I are very grateful for our lives… hope you all are as well.

Thank God I had a heart attack Pt.2/Heart Attack Dead Ahead

Alright. The divorce. I will NOT dwell on that. I am a Christian and it totally surprised me that my bride went off the deep end and got involved heavily in drugs. She just checked out. She MAY now be sober. She deserves our prayers and has battled her demons.

Room mates. I will condense this because I feel that I have at least two chapters in a future book on this topic. My one room mate was a cool guy, but one night he ’snapped.’ Now that is not the medical term I am sure. Remember there are no letters behind my name. But it happened. He became scattered, hostile, threatening, really out of control.

The other room mate helped me deal with the first one. But he was a handful himself. He thought he was an reincarnation of Jesus, yes he did. He thought that when he went through an emotional experience in Western Canada once(many seem to think they are saved at that moment) that he, in fact became Jesus.

On top of that he was running for president. Yeah really. The only thing he had going for him in that illusion was that it truly was 2004 and there really was an election going on.

These two guys were rooming with me at the same time. The first one went nuts and I had to get a restraining order on him the night we changed the locks

The other one just up and left after that incident, but while he was there he paid me handsomely for editing his story. Once he talked me into it, I took a real liking to the project.

Bad finances. I spent more that I made. I made some big mistakes. I refinanced after being convinced that my home was worth more than it really was. I was not financially healthy at all.

My first wife and I bought the condo when we were married and the deal was, when she left, she took most of the stuff and I got the condo. Not such a bad deal, but I never took the time or the money to keep up the basic repairs. It was ugly, with one bathroom torn up, and other things needing paint, nails, cleaning or major overhaul. I owed 97K and it was worth 81K.

My job. I was passed by by technology according to my boss. He told me gently, roughly, rudely, and in attempts to shock and embarrass. I listened, it went in one ear and out the other. My production declined, my pay did too, of course. The company changed the deal for us as well. Many of us know that when they change the deal, they give you LESS money, not more. Guess what? Now that I am spending my time on the phone every day, I figured out that my boss was right in his criticism. We keep living, we keep learning hopefully.

I slept too little and it was ruined by worries and caffeine among other fears and situations.

My diet. The biggest and easiest to identify, in retrospect. Everything was wrong. Too much red meat, bratwurst, cheese, eggs, pizza and more. I really overdid it. Also, I drank Pepsi and Mountain Dew like there was no tomorrow. There came a time where that almost happened.

No fruit, and few vegetables also.

Combine that with the no exercise, the stress, some good old-fashioned despair, and now you can see my situation. Also, I could be a victim with the best of them. All in all, I was a train-wreck waiting for a place to happen.

The event itself is another story. Let’s just say that I was in the right place, at the right time, and made the right decisions, even under the effects of the heart attack.

Milwaukee Wisconsin’s finest cardiologist was on duty. Dr. Frank Cummins saved my life with an agressive cardio-catherization, just 64 minutes after the onset of the incident. In heart surgery, agressive is good. In rushhour traffic-agressive is bad. (In case you were wondering.)

Now, what has changed, and why am I grateful?  See Part 3.

Thank God I had a heart attack, Pt 1/My story begins

Thank God I had a heart attack

I am a heart attack survivor. There are no letters after my name, but I WAS smart enough to marry a Dr. I want to highlight life changes that came about as a result of my heart attack. I hope to help others by letting them tell their story, which should enrich all of our lives.

We are all survivors of something and it is NOT what happens to us that is important but how we respond, rebound, regroup, revive, flourish and become remarkable, following our heart incident.

Thank God I had a heart attack!  We will release a book of the same name later on this year…..

My life before.

I am truly grateful that I had a heart attack. I did it to myself without a doubt. See How to Have a Heart Attack in 9 Easy Steps   at  http://rickemmerich.com    I did everything wrong, and did it over and over again.

Some of you may relate. We thought we were in good shape. We USED to be in good shape. Back in the day I bounced at the hot night club, did aerobics, free weights, golfed, played other sports and took saunas, even rode 26 miles round-trip on my 12 speed to and from the factory job I had.   And it was 12 hours each shift.

But that was then.  (20 years ago.)  4 years ago, I had BIG issues.
1. A painful, rather sudden divorce, out of left field.
2. 2 Room mates that were crazy-yes really crazy you’ll see.
3. Bad financial dealings: bad decisions, and over-spending my earnings.
4. A condo in a state of disrepair, sliding its worth downward from the level I refied at. (Upside Down)
5. A stressful job that I did not handle well in my stressed lifestyle.
6. Lack of sleep and no quality sleep even when I did rest.
7. Terrible diet, enough said.

OK, stop, breathe, don’t focus on the negative I just threw at you. Unless you see your present life in the descriptions.

This is the first of 3 in THIS series and can also be viewed at http://www.squidoo.com/ThankGodIhadaheartattack  check it out, rate it, share it.  To order the first book in the series, Thank God I….called surprisingly enough,   Thank God I……  go to http://thankgodi.com/?idAff=4

Dr, Dr, Give me the news!

Drs, they sometimes LIKE to give us the news and, sometimes, well, you can just tell, right?

I have a quick blurb from a Dr. Paul Williams, who from my sources is a great Dr. and speaker.  When I get the whole speech, I will look at giving more info.

He said in a recent speech that there are 3 TOP causes of death in the medical community.

One.  No surprise here…..it’s Heart Disease.  See previous blogs, and for obvious reasons, I will be updating heart health info weekly.  As some of you know I am the ‘Heart Health Guy’.  There are all kinds of factors that contribute to heart disease.  Certainly some are completely in our control.

Two.  And giving the heart a run for the money, it’s…Cancer.  I know, there’s a shock.  As we find out every day, there are more and more things that contribute to cancers.

and coming in at number Three, is….drum roll please….The Medical Profession.  Yes, you read that right.  That same group of highly trained professionals, they make mistakes.  Heck, when I make a mistake, I pull out the white-out.  (I know, not on the computer screen.)  When Drs make them, it can result in the wrong limb being removed, and as we know, death is worse.

In that category would be deaths resulting from wrongly using prescriptions, and as you might guess, there is wrong diagnosing.  Now, I did not write this to bust the Drs, just to present an alternative.

As many of us get more knowledge and perhaps return to alternative medicine and preventative measures, doesn’t it follow that less trips to MDs, and hospitals, means less prescriptions and less operations.  Why not prepare the body for health, by balancing it?

Don’t throw out the Acupuncturists, the Chiropractors, the Massage Therapists just because your insurance doesn’t cover it.  There are more and more articles published each year that reflect on thousands of years of Eastern Practices as opposed to mere hunderds of years of medicine here.

I knows some MDs and certainly am aware of the hard work and dedication that they have gone through to become Drs in the first place, and then to build a practice.  I am not here to bash them.  I am particularly grateful to the Cardiologist, Dr. Frank Cummins that saved my life on the operating table about 32 months ago.

On the other hand, Drs are human and make human being-type mistakes as we see.

Just like the people that are getting sick from the poison that is shot into them called a flu shot, there are others feeling the repercussions from all the prescription meds that are out there.

I am rising up to declare.  Get fit, get healthy and stay away from the Drs!  Change your diet, cleanse your body, dump the addictions, and this one is going to hurt (me), exercise.

We see radical transformations on the TV with many people losing so much weight.  That has to become a habit, as does the other factors I have mentioned.

As the weeks go by I will talk about alternatives to stress, obesity, heart disease, and death, by bringing news and teachings that apply.

How to Have a Heart Attack in 9 Easy Steps

Yes I am qualified to train people on this.  August 21, 2008 will be the 4 year anniversary of my heart attack.

 1.  No matter what, DON’T exercise.  Relax on the couch as much as possible.  It’s exercise to type on the keyboard and surf through all those exhausting miles on the net.  Rush hour traffic in Milwaukee/Honolulu/Insert your city is burning some calories too, for sure.  Run up to work when you get there 3 minutes after 8AM, it gets the blood moving.

2.  Hold in that stress that comes from financial dealings.  In fact, make sure that you are flying by the seat of your pants all the time.  Make sure EVERY car payment and mortgage payment get in just before the penalties are assessed.  Heck, having a mortgage these days is stressful enough isn’t it?

3.  Make sure that you really raise your voice when you talk to Customer Service people and bill-collectors.  They are evil.  Some of them are in India and the Philippines.  Those people not only speak a diferent brand of English, but they may have stolen one of your friends’ jobs along the line.  They don’t like you and get a kick out of sticking it to you, because they can.  The ones in the US are easeier to get to by pushing their buttons.  Make sure you win every argument and conversation with these people.  Let them and everyone else, for that matter know what a victim you are.

4.  Always keep your plate full and when necessary, get more plates.

5.  Keep your home environment in a constant state of confusion-THAT burns calories as well.  Find people that will contribute to that chaos and get them to move in,  it helps with the mortgage payment.  Extra points if you find anyone that is a compulsive liar, compulsive hoarder, an addict or thinks he is Jesus Christ.

6.  Keep up the illusion that you are as healthy as ever.  Ignore all reasonable suggestions from well-meaning friends, especially those with healthcare backgrounds.  Always play softball on the church league so that you exhibit your athleticism to as many people as possible.

7.  Use a ton of caffeine.  It gets you going.  It is your friend.  Caffeine has other helpers, usually found in soda and Snickers.  The resulting sludge that used to be called your blood is of no concern, heck you are only in your 40s.  Drink energy drinks, they keep you going, keep you young.

8.  Diet.  Make sure that you eat plenty.  WHAT you eat is of no real concern since you take daily vitamins.  You’re a fast mover and fast food fuels your lifestyle.  Try NOT to eat fast food more than 3 times a day though, that would be overdoing it.  Eat regional foods, support local businesses.  Wisconsin Cheese-heck, put cheese on everything.  Cows, they are dairy, right?  Eat a lot of red meat.  When in Rome….Eat a lot of bratwurst, you’re German aren’t you?  Pizza is good-eat a lot, you really like to eat don’t you.  Skip fruit and vegetables, too much trouble.  If you eat too many hotdogs, stop for a while when you develop gout.  Then you can restart after it clears up.

9.  Sleep?  Sleep is a sign of weakness.  Only sleep when you have to.  Your bed is better than using your keyboard as a pillow, however.  Make that necessary sleep from 4-5 hours tops.  (That way you have more time to enjoy your wonderful life.)  Make sure when you do pop out of bed, you hit the ground running.

The author, Rick Emmerich is a heart health enthusiast.  Once is enough.   Having practiced the above techniques and attained the result, he has now made MANY changes, including marrying  Dr. Malia.   http://rickemmerich.com, twitter: @hearthealthguy    www.holyteaclub.com/rickemmerich     www.rickemmerich.myzrii.com    facebook, and the other usual hangouts.  This entry is a small portion of a future Thank God I book series publication, Thank God I had a heart attack.   To order the first book of the series     click here   http://thankgodi.com/?idAff=4              rick   808 371-6501

Zrii Questions and my sales letter

This letter was sent to answer questions raised by someone I contacted about Zrii today….

Aloha,

My wife Dr. Malia says that Zrii absolutely will help those with Chronic Fatique.  She is not trying to diagnose you here, or any one particular person without meeting them BUT….Zrii has adaptagen qualities to be able to handle stress.  As you know and I just learned, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and other auto-immune conditions where the body attacks itself cause adrenal exhaustion.

Of course, those conditions when not cared for can lead to Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, severe allergies, Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Cancers.  People that don’t reduce stress (Zrii specifically helps that), exercise, and/or sleep enough will find further complications like those I listed.

Stress that I had 4 years ago, along with a terrible diet, and lack of exercise led me to have a heart attack.  My body was in fight-or-flight mode all the time, and even when I laid down to ‘rest’ my sleep wasn’t that good, or long enough.  I am NOT a Dr, but I have this experience to share from.  We have used Zrii almost daily since August and we feel more energy, lower stress, better endurance for workouts, and better sleep quality.  Others have suggested their their pain from arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and fibromaylgia have been eased or eliminated.  There is a natural anti-inflamatory quality from the ingredients in the drink.  Neither my wife nor I work FOR Zrii nor have we cleared these statements with the Drs at Zrii.  We DO know one of them, Dr. Suhas, and we highly recommend that you check with the SAB (Science Advisory Board) calls on the site to find out more.

Weight Loss Secret

How’s your weight loss going?  I know, you don’t want to be bugged about it.  But look around there are more and more obese people, and at least here in Hawaii, so many obese kids.  It’s sad, and I know that so many schools have cut their PE budgets and even eliminated the opportunities for kids to get basic exercise.

Now, I didn’t start this to try and get you into some workout program, although you and I may need exactly that.  I suggest walking, at least 3 to 4 times a week and actually getting to the point where you work up a sweat.  Burn those calories.  That will help, but read on.

No, the focus here is about getting rid of the waste from the body.  I have found an herbal and gentle way to cleanse the colon.  It’s very simple.  Food, especially undigested red meat gets stored up in our colon.  This will get it out of there.  You will feel better, lighter, and other benefits will follow.

For the first time in my life (I’m 51) I was told that my skin looks great!  People have noticed the 11-13 lbs that I have lost, and I feel better.

Try Dr. Miller’s Holy Tea and let me know how it works for you.  Now, a proper diet will work wonders, especially in conjunction with this tea.  Please read the directions for the tea.  To sum it up, make one gallon of your favorite tea, and I will suggest non-caffeinated.  Then as the tea is still warm/hot, but not boiling, add the weeks supply-two Dr. Miller’s Holy Tea bags and let it simmer. I usually leave it in the refigerator over night and then put it into some empty gatorade quart containers, back in the refigerator.

I take one large cup in the morning and then a smaller one in the evening, usually around dinner.  You will find out if you have taken too much by the softness of the stool.  (hope you weren’t eating as you read this.)

Now, I will include some testimonials and let you go to my site.  By the way, I was not onboard right away with the tea.  As I followed the directions exactly, and then remembered every day to use it, the lbs came off.  I am now sold.  I suggest if you like it, to buy it wholesale and go on autopship.  Call me with any questions.             http://www.holyteaclub.com/rickemmerich

Here’s what some users have said about Dr. Miller’s Holy Tea benefits…

“I have been on Dr. Miller’s Tea for 12 years, both my husband and I. I had Crohn’s Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and terrible acid reflux. I won’t miss a day without drinking my tea. I used to have terrible knife-like sharp pains in my stomach from the Crohn’s and IBS, and a great deal of discomfort from the acid reflux. Dr. Miller’s tea has cleared all of this up, and I lost almost 30 pounds as well. My husband lost more weight than I did. I swear by the tea and would not be without it.”

- Ruth and Billy Hurt, Cedar Grove, TN

“Since I began taking Dr. Miller’s Tea I no longer need to take Nexium, and my Acid Reflux is totally cleared up. I dropped from 240 to 185 lbs., and even though I smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day the doctor said he could not believe how clear my lungs are, as if I did not smoke. The Tea is the best health product I have ever taken!”

- William Griffen, Jackson, TN

“Not only did the Tea make me look years younger, I feel years younger too, and have more energy than ever. I tell everyone this is a ‘must have’ product.”

- Sally May, Jackson, TN (she lost 60+ pounds)

“As a member of the medical community, I was quite familiar with the causes, symptoms, and treatments available for Crohn’s. I became much more knowledgeable in this regard as I became a victim of this so-called incurable disorder. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind as to the effectiveness and medical principals behind Dr. Miller’s Tea. I have experienced personally the pain and discomfort that results from Crohn’s and I have also done exhaustive research into the possible treatments and cures. Dr. Miller’s Tea is the only viable solution I am aware of for treating and clearing up this dreaded disease.”
