Before you order that next Big Mac…

MUST READ ABOUT MCDONALDS

THIS IS A GOOD DECENT MAN WHO TOOK THE TIME TO WRITE THIS AND:

HE SIGNED THE STATEMENT AND: INCLUDED HIS CONTACT INFO:

READ ON

I’m sure those of you who aren’t in the cattle business don’t understand
the issues here. But to those of us whose living depends on the cattle market,
selling cattle, raising the best beef possible… This is frustrating.
This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink.
The original message is from the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
American cattle producers are very passionate about this.

McDonald’s claims that there is not enough beef in the USA to support

their restaurants. Well, we know that is not so. Our opinion is they are
looking to save money at our expense. The sad thing of it is that the people
of the USA are the ones who made McDonald’s successful in the first place,
but we are not good enough to provide beef.

We personally are no longer eating at McDonald’s, which I am sure does not

make an impact, but if we pass this around maybe there will be an impact felt.

All Americans that sell cows at a livestock auction barn had to sign a paper

stating that we do NOT EVER feed our cows any part of another cow..
South Americans are not required to do this as of yet.

McDonald’s has announced that they are going to start importing much of

their beef from South America . The problem is that South Americans aren’t
under the same regulations as American beef producers, and the regulations
they have are loosely controlled.

They can spray numerous pesticides on their pastures that have been banned

here at home because of residues found in the beef. They can also use various
hormones and growth regulators that we can’t. The American public needs to
be aware of this problem and that they may be putting themselves at risk from
now on by eating at g ood old McDonald’s..

American ranchers raise the highest quality beef in the world and this is what

Americans deserve to eat. Not beef from countries where quality is loosely
controlled. Therefore, I am proposing a boycott of McDonald’s until they
see the light.

I’m sorry but everything is not always about the bottom line, and when it

comes to jeopardizing my family’s health, that is where I draw the line.

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at
least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) …and those 300 send it to at l east ten more
(300 x 10 = 3,000) … And so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth
generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
please pass this message on..

Standard Amercian Diet Part 1

Food Inc “National security is threatened by the sharp rise in obesity rates for young people over the last 15 years”

news.yahoo.com

Too fat to fight? Many American children are so overweight from being fed french fries, pizza and other unhealthy foods at school lunchrooms that they cannot handle the physical rigors of being in the military, a group of retired officers say in a new report.
Thanks Yahoo and the military for the scoop.  No surprise, though.  This country is ready for a revolution, a FOOD revolution.  How about some more greens, some fresh vegetables and better yet, some vegetables grown within a hundred miles of our homes.
To say nothing of the almost elimination of all Physical Education in schools.  I am not a n expert, but I have heard that there is little PE left.  Kids don’t walk to school like we did.  I see the parents dropping off the kids in the SUVs and BMWs.  I would bet that a mile walk each way every day would do them, some good.

A friend of mine is 14 and lives about 3/4 of a mile from High School.  I said “you walk right?” and she turned up her little nose and said “Walk, and get all sweaty?”  (Ummm no, of course not, sorry I asked.)
Kids LOVE McDonalds, and I watch parents giving even babies Doritos and junky cookies, and candy.  Wow.
Kids these days would rather talk/text on their cell phones, or play video games than actually go on a  hike or go to the beach, or ride a bike, or heaven forbid, play a game of basketball or softball.  Not all kids, but a lot of them.
So apparently it will be even harder to field an all-volunteer armed forces with so many obese teens and young adults.
Our diets have to change before we ALL get Diabetes, and hit morbid obesity.  Just sayin’.

New Sign of Stroke

INFORMATION EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW…………………..

B
lood Clots/Stroke – They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters…..S.T.R.

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word.  I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.  Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall – she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered t o call paramedics) she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Ingrid’s husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital – (at 6:00 PM Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don’t die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this…

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke…totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the ‘3′ steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *
Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)  (I.e. It is sunny out today)
R
Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately
and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke ——– Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another ’sign’ of a stroke is this: Ask the person to ’stick’ out his tongue.. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other
, that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Would you?

OBAMA, are you listening?

OK folks, as a former Obama supporter,  (I think he’s brilliant, passionate, mostly fair), but this is just wrong.      Rick Emmerich
This letter appeared in the Indianapolis Star (which is owned by the same people who own the Arizona Republic) and was sent to a very popular Indiana Senator. This just goes to show everyone what pressure these Democrats are currently under, so continue to let them know how you feel about the healthcare bill. Bill Stough—Shock to NBC This morning.

An Indianapolis doctor’s letter to Sen. Bayh about the Bill (Note: Dr. Stephen E. Frazer, MD practices as an anesthesiologist in Indianapolis, IN ) Here is a letter I sent to Senator Bayh.. Feel free to copy it and send it around to all other representatives. — Stephen Fraser

Senator Bayh,

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.

I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!

Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.

Page 335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339: The Govt mandates establishment of=2 outcome-based measures. (HC the way they want — rationing.)
Page 341 Lines 3-9: The Govt has authority to disqualify Medicare Advance Plans, HMOs, etc. (Forcing people into the Govt plan)

Page 354 Sec 1177: The Govt will RESTRICT enrollment of ’special needs people!’ Unbelievable!

Page 379 Sec 1191: The Govt creates more bureaucracy via a “Tele-Health Advisory Committee.” (Can you say HC by phone?)

Page 425 Lines 4-12: The Govt mandates “Advance-Care Planning Consult.” (Think senior citizens end-of-life patients.)

Page 425 Lines 17-19: The Govt will instruct and consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney, etc. (And it’s mandatory!)
Page 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3: The Govt provides an “approved” list of end-of-life resources; guiding you in death. (Also called ‘assisted suicide.’)(Soylent Green?)

Page 427 Lines 15-24: The Govt mandates a program for orders on “end-of-life.” (The Govt has a say in how your life ends!)

Page 429 Lines 1-9: An “advanced-care planning consultant” will be used frequently as a patient’s health deteriorates.

Page 429 Lines 10-12: An “advanced care consultation” may include an ORDER for end-of-life plans.. (AN ORDER TO DIE FROM THE GOVERNMENT?!?)

Page 429 Lines 13-25: The GOVT will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order.. (I wouldn’t want to stand before God after getting paid for THAT job!)

Page 430 Lines 11-15: The Govt will decide what level of treatment you will have at end-of-life! (Again — no choice!)

Page 469: Community-Based Home Medical Services = Non-Profit Organizations. (Hello? ACORN Medical Services here!?!)

Page 489 Sec 1308: The Govt will cover marriage and family therapy. (Which means Govt will insert itself into your marriage even.)

Page 494-498: Govt will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, and rationing those services.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.

Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.

Respectfully,

Stephen E. Fraser, MD

Thank God I

Thank God I had a heart attack.  It changed my life, and I have a life now, of immeasureable gratitude.  My goal is to be grateful every day and express that to God and to others.  This arena helps, of course.

Whati is your Thank God experience?  What can you add at the end of that little phrase that is real for you and you can share with the world?  John Demarrtin ihas taken me through the Breakthrough Experience several times where we ‘confront’ and process situations in our lives that were challenging and that shaped our current situation.

Many are not pretty.  Many of us became victims, and were quite ready to tell eveyone how bad the world was treating us.  I could see and sense my impoending doom and ‘knew’ that my health was in danger 5 years ago.  It took the heart attack to shock me into change.  Now, I am not 100% where I want to be.  I am a work in progress for sure.  But lots has happened, and Lots CAN happen when we get disatisfied with where we have brought our lives.

Go from Victim to Victor.  John’s books share his teachings and his magnificent and intense Breatkthrough Weekends may be coming to a metropolitan area near you.; He loves to come to Honolulu, but it’s not what you think, or what I had thoought.  Since his mission or purpose it to travel the world speaking to as many as possible and to get paid handsomel;y for it, this guy never seems to enjoy the scenery when he’s here. It’s work work work.

But that’s his passion.  What is yours?  Or what would it be if you could do anything you wanted?

Thank God I is a community of like-minded people and authors, (not that we have any non-people authors.)  Anyone can visit and I especially urge those who have the talent to write to share your experiences.  Heck, you may even be a part of a book one of these days.  John Castagnini, the founder of Thank God I (no relation to John Demartini :) has the passion to share this project and help empower others and enlighten thousands in the process.

Npw this is not the right place to give you an in-depth sudy of Dr. John’s techings, it’s much too small to do them justice.  Nor have I devoted enough time to really tell about Thank God I, but you can research both, and I recommend that.  John says a few things that I repeat often and here they are;  “I am perfect the way I am”  “Whoever I am and what ever I have done, I am worthy of love.”  (I may have paraphrased that one.)  “I do what I love, and I love what I do”

The idea is that we can stand up and scream “Thank God I” and then fill in the blank with that terrible thing that happened, the pain that we have had for years, or the situation tha was up-til now holding us back.

If you are intrigued, go to http://www.thankgodi.com/184.html   In early 2010 Thank God I will have our 3rd book on the shelves and I expect to be one of the authors.  Also some previews are at http://rickemmerich.com

More Heart Health from @hearthealthguy

At this moment I am not going to rehash my heart attack, even though it is out there, and in the rolls of this blog, of course. “Thank God I Had a Heart Attack” HOWEVER, based on the fact that I did most things right the second I became aware of the heart attack, I do recommend this one. Among other things I grabbed 1 or 2 aspirins from my desk and took them before I moved myself out to the front area of the office I was in.

HEART ATTACK ~ THE NEW ASPIRIN

Something that we can do to help ourselves. Nice to know.

Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep aspirin by your bedside?

About Heart Attacks

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards:
- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- say “heart attack!”
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins..
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and…
~ do NOT lie down ~

A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life can be saved!

I have already shared the information- – What about you?

Do forward this message; it may save lives!

Lanikai

“Lanikai Oh Lanikai”, sung to the tune of Galveston, by Glenn Campbell.

It’s unbelievable here.  It’s now 2 AM and I am typing this in my loft office as the breezes dominate the sounds outside, rather than the old H-1 and 16th Ave. noises my wife and I were used to.  Around 11PM and sometimes midnight every night, it seemed there would be the extreme blasts of the fast cars or motorcycles on H-1.  I figured it was the exact time of shift change for HPD.

Honolulu seems like a distant memory to me already.

None of that here.  I guess the mansion next door has automatic sprinklers, cuz they just kicked in.  My wife would think it was raining.

For those of you who don’t know Lanikai, stick around.  When we were first offered the chance to stay here for a short while, I told Malia NO, and went over the list of reasons, so matter-of-factly, so logically.  I was Ben Franklin, with the legal pad with the pros and the right and the cons on the left.  By the way that method is over-rated, we all know we can manipulate the process.

Anyway, like many things, talking about Lanikai Beach, connected to Kailua Beach, is just NOT good enough.  It has to be experienced.  You could notice, some night in the area, how extravagant the moon and stars look through the tops of the palm trees, but chances are you’d miss it.

You could ‘luck out’ and catch a photo with the fading available light as the sun dips behind the mountain here.  You know, it is more of a hill, but mountain sounds good, doesn’t it?

You may catch a nice picture of the Mokes, (the Mokulua Islands), but not really ‘get it.’

There is really nothing like the daily “hey, I’m on vacation” feel here.  It is incredible to catch the various shades of shadowy light in the evening and snap as many ‘perfect’ pics as you want.  And I can’t wait to catch another unique sunrise from behind the Mokes.  In 3 more hours….ouch.

The beach is slowly eroding or disappearing….choose your word.  Even knowing that, it remains one  of God’s masterpieces.  It is great to join the tourists on the beach and just chill.  No one will bother you, and this whole area is filled with athletic or not-so-athletic types that are always jogging, swimming, boarding or paddling.

Our time here may be limited.  If this is heaven, God, I DO want to stay here forever.  Just wanted to get THAT out there.  We are so blessed.  Thank God I married wisely…..

Of course I will show pics soon.  But give me a minute, we just got the computer set up today.  So it’s me and the cats off to bed for now…………aloha

Thank God I had a heart attack Pt. 3/What has changed.

Now, what has changed, and why am I grateful?

I was grateful that I came out of the procedure without too much damage, heck I was breathing.
I’m grateful that so many of my bros and sisters in Christ saw fit to visit me. My mom, and two of my sisters made the drive up from Chicago (to Milwaukee).

I took another look at my life, and eliminated most if not all of the stress. Eventually people stepped up big time to help reassemble my poor condo.

Less than one year after the visit to the hospital I married the most wonderful perfect woman for me. And she is a Holistic Chiropractor. I live in Hawaii. God has been very very good to me.

The changes I made right after I got back home from the hospital included adding fruits and vegetables and cutting out the red meat for the most part.

Then Dr. Malia and I met in person. The moment I saw her at LAX, I said “She’s the one for me!” She said to herself “He’s OK.”

She gave much more advice about nutrition and gave me adjustments. She also introduced me to NET,(Neural Emotional Technique.) I felt more love and encouragement the more we got to know each other. We are a great match.

I work at home (do you call this work?) so most of the frustrations from a job are gone.

The beauty, the skies, the beaches the air so wonderful, the trade winds, the temperature here in Hawaii obviously blows away the gray, too cold or too hot, rush hour traffic life in Milwaukee. I know there are good things there too, of course.

I want to share my life, my knowledge of health, my wife’s knowledge and advice. I want to help those I can. I know the Bible a little and find that that is a major help in my life. I am willing to share that too. (I don’t think God let me live to just kick back and watch ESPN.)

Sharing YOUR story will be refreshing and will help others. You definitely CAN become a part of a published book, Thank God I had a heart attack. (If that is your passion.)

We will get some audios, some videos and some pictures of other survivors. The top pic is me and my lovely bride, Dr. Malia walking down the aisle. I guess you will see others.

I’m starting Yoga and can’t wait to get back into a workout routine. It’s been a while.

Please write your heart attack survivor story and share pics at http://www.squidoo.com/ThankGodIhadaheartattack.

Malia and I believe that God kept me around for a reason, and my relationship with Him is so important.  If that is a need or desire of yours as well, we’d love to share more how He has impacted our lives.

Those more interested in Chiropractic and Dr. Malia (not TOO interested guys) can go to  http://honoluluchiropracor.net to find out more

I love you all, my wife Dr.Malia and I are very grateful for our lives… hope you all are as well.

Thank God I had a heart attack Pt.2/Heart Attack Dead Ahead

Alright. The divorce. I will NOT dwell on that. I am a Christian and it totally surprised me that my bride went off the deep end and got involved heavily in drugs. She just checked out. She MAY now be sober. She deserves our prayers and has battled her demons.

Room mates. I will condense this because I feel that I have at least two chapters in a future book on this topic. My one room mate was a cool guy, but one night he ’snapped.’ Now that is not the medical term I am sure. Remember there are no letters behind my name. But it happened. He became scattered, hostile, threatening, really out of control.

The other room mate helped me deal with the first one. But he was a handful himself. He thought he was an reincarnation of Jesus, yes he did. He thought that when he went through an emotional experience in Western Canada once(many seem to think they are saved at that moment) that he, in fact became Jesus.

On top of that he was running for president. Yeah really. The only thing he had going for him in that illusion was that it truly was 2004 and there really was an election going on.

These two guys were rooming with me at the same time. The first one went nuts and I had to get a restraining order on him the night we changed the locks

The other one just up and left after that incident, but while he was there he paid me handsomely for editing his story. Once he talked me into it, I took a real liking to the project.

Bad finances. I spent more that I made. I made some big mistakes. I refinanced after being convinced that my home was worth more than it really was. I was not financially healthy at all.

My first wife and I bought the condo when we were married and the deal was, when she left, she took most of the stuff and I got the condo. Not such a bad deal, but I never took the time or the money to keep up the basic repairs. It was ugly, with one bathroom torn up, and other things needing paint, nails, cleaning or major overhaul. I owed 97K and it was worth 81K.

My job. I was passed by by technology according to my boss. He told me gently, roughly, rudely, and in attempts to shock and embarrass. I listened, it went in one ear and out the other. My production declined, my pay did too, of course. The company changed the deal for us as well. Many of us know that when they change the deal, they give you LESS money, not more. Guess what? Now that I am spending my time on the phone every day, I figured out that my boss was right in his criticism. We keep living, we keep learning hopefully.

I slept too little and it was ruined by worries and caffeine among other fears and situations.

My diet. The biggest and easiest to identify, in retrospect. Everything was wrong. Too much red meat, bratwurst, cheese, eggs, pizza and more. I really overdid it. Also, I drank Pepsi and Mountain Dew like there was no tomorrow. There came a time where that almost happened.

No fruit, and few vegetables also.

Combine that with the no exercise, the stress, some good old-fashioned despair, and now you can see my situation. Also, I could be a victim with the best of them. All in all, I was a train-wreck waiting for a place to happen.

The event itself is another story. Let’s just say that I was in the right place, at the right time, and made the right decisions, even under the effects of the heart attack.

Milwaukee Wisconsin’s finest cardiologist was on duty. Dr. Frank Cummins saved my life with an agressive cardio-catherization, just 64 minutes after the onset of the incident. In heart surgery, agressive is good. In rushhour traffic-agressive is bad. (In case you were wondering.)

Now, what has changed, and why am I grateful?  See Part 3.

Thank God I had a heart attack, Pt 1/My story begins

Thank God I had a heart attack

I am a heart attack survivor. There are no letters after my name, but I WAS smart enough to marry a Dr. I want to highlight life changes that came about as a result of my heart attack. I hope to help others by letting them tell their story, which should enrich all of our lives.

We are all survivors of something and it is NOT what happens to us that is important but how we respond, rebound, regroup, revive, flourish and become remarkable, following our heart incident.

Thank God I had a heart attack!  We will release a book of the same name later on this year…..

My life before.

I am truly grateful that I had a heart attack. I did it to myself without a doubt. See How to Have a Heart Attack in 9 Easy Steps   at  http://rickemmerich.com    I did everything wrong, and did it over and over again.

Some of you may relate. We thought we were in good shape. We USED to be in good shape. Back in the day I bounced at the hot night club, did aerobics, free weights, golfed, played other sports and took saunas, even rode 26 miles round-trip on my 12 speed to and from the factory job I had.   And it was 12 hours each shift.

But that was then.  (20 years ago.)  4 years ago, I had BIG issues.
1. A painful, rather sudden divorce, out of left field.
2. 2 Room mates that were crazy-yes really crazy you’ll see.
3. Bad financial dealings: bad decisions, and over-spending my earnings.
4. A condo in a state of disrepair, sliding its worth downward from the level I refied at. (Upside Down)
5. A stressful job that I did not handle well in my stressed lifestyle.
6. Lack of sleep and no quality sleep even when I did rest.
7. Terrible diet, enough said.

OK, stop, breathe, don’t focus on the negative I just threw at you. Unless you see your present life in the descriptions.
